small successes

It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that.

1 – I cleaned and purged…MY ROOM! I can finally see my dresser top, the closet floor and even my bathroom drawer. Unfortunately the master bedroom had become a dumping ground for everything. It’s good to gain back a bedroom.

2- The 40 bags for 40 days is slowly coming along. (See above) I think I got 3 bags alone in my own room.

3 – I’m slowly continuing on my Lenten journey. The psalms are being read daily, finally made it back to mass yesterday and I’m really trying hard to be present for the kids. Heck, as a family we even broke out Monopoly last weekend. I thought it would be too old for them, but guess what? The 7 yo had no problem playing, the 5 yo played with minimal help and even the 3 yo participated (she helped Dad be the banker).  They really enjoyed it and keep asking for more 🙂

It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been so long since I’ve posted any successes.  Our whole family has been down and out with horrible colds this last month.  It really put a damper on some of the extras that I was trying to do.   I’m hoping to get back into blogging on a bit more of a regular basis.

1 – I actually prepared our Lenten activities this year. Last year we were several days into Lent without anything on the go, so this year I did some research and got everything ready to begin on Ash Wed. We are doing the Holy Hereos Lenten Adventure, Lenten Calender from here (BTW I LOVE Catholic Icing), Sacrifice jar and I purchased the Stations of the cross CD from Holy Hereos.  We are still waiting on the cd, but I hope to begin it next week.

2 – Socks, oh how I loath thee.  You may remember my previous posts about socks.  I seriously think they were created to give me a headache.  It wouldn’t be so bad if it was my husband and I who wore them, but my 3 girls absolutely dispise wearing them.  Even in the dead of winter when it is 40 below.  I put the socks on them in the morning, and as soon as they get the chance, off they come.  Do you have this problem?  So when I go to wash the little things I end up with missing pairs.  I even started a missing sock bin on my dresser.  It was overflowing and spilling onto the floor.  Well I managed to match many pairs of socks and am now down to just a mere few.  I think the rest are hiding in the van….

3 – My own Lenten journey.  I really have to get into reading scripture again, so I’m going to try and tackle the Psalms.  Any suggestions for me?  That and add an extra mass during the week.  For the last two months we haven’t been able to make it to our daily mass on Wednesday and it’s really starting to show.  Luckily everyone is healthy again, and our parish priest is back from his retreat and vacation, so it’s back to mass we go starting next week 🙂  I’m also going to try the 40 bags for 40 days.  We could all do with a lot less stuff (especially me).

It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that.

1 – Blogged not once, not twice but 4 whole times (5 if you include this one) this week.  That in itself is a HUGE success!

2- Celebrated my 34th birthday!  And I was content, not grumpy like the last (4 or more years!).  Enjoyed yummy Chocolate Cake, ordered in some Chinese food and spent it with my family.  What more could I ask for?  Well, I did ask for one thing (and it is in the mail).  Danielle Bean’s new book.  Can’t wait to get it!  Also celebrated Hannah’s birthday the day before (what an awesome present!)  I can’t believe she’s 3 already!

3 – Laundry (at least the kids clothes are done and folded), I’m hoping I’m motivated enough to do mine!

Bonus: Even though I suck at blogging (okay, that’s too strong of a word…maybe just lazy), I’ve volunteered to host blog on the EtsyClothDiaper Team Blog for Thursday theme diapers.  So far it’s been really easy.  Maybe that’s why I’ve been into blogging more lately!

It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that.

1 – Updated all book keeping. I’ve really got to stop letting this one slide. 3 months of entering stuff into a spreadsheet is not my idea of a fun evening!

2 – Reconciliation how I love thee! We were able to go this past Sunday. I love that clean soul feeling. My oldest gets to join in the fun in a few months, I’m really excited for her.

3 – Wow, I must have done at least 10 loads (if not more) this week already….I’ve really got to teach the kids how to do it.  Everything is put away (except for the towels).

Bonus – Thanks for all the prayers for my family. My Dad seems to be on the mend. Keep him in your prayers for a complete recovery.

This in itself is a small success (Updating my blog that is!)

1 – We managed to get to daily mass yesterday, even though I really did not feel like it. Let’s just say, 3 of 4 kids were up an average of 3 times each the night before. But you know what? God is good because we were able to make it on time and I wasn’t (too) tired to function yesterday.

2 – Currently discerning homeschooling next year. This is a huge step, since it will mean several big changes to our household. I have to admit they are mostly selfish ones. I ask for prayers to help me determine if this is God’s will or mine. So far the kids (they will be in Grade 3, 1 and preschool next year) seem enthusiastic about it and even the husband is on board if we decide to go ahead with it.

3 – I’m hosting my very first giveaway on the blog! You can find it here. It’s to celebrate my new shop logo (which is soooo cute).

And finally I would like to request prayers for my Dad.  He is currently in the hospital recovering from pneumonia. Please pray for a quick recovery!  He’s been sick since August.

(Okay I’m averaging every other Thursday…but who’s counting!)

1 – I have been on a cleaning frenzy these last 2 weeks. The Laundry Room and Fridge have been conquered! I’m trying to do a little every day so I don’t have huge cleaning days. Let’s see how long I keep up with that. (I’m also getting the kids to help out where I can….)

2 – I’ve also been sewing up a storm. I recently had some Michael Miller Knits arrive (Imagine t-shirts with cool prints) and I’ve been busy creating sun dresses and shorts for the girls. I’ll get the pictures ready and link the website tutorials I used.

3 – It is officially day 4 of Potty Training with Hannah. This has been the 3rd time I’ve tried with her and it finally seems to be sinking in! She just woke up and asked to use the potty….and did. That in itself is a HUGE success (not for me, but for her).

Bonus – This isn’t really a success on my part, but last weekend the word-press blog site decided to feature my blog entries on their front page. Wow, I’ve never had so many visitors before and got some really great comments. Unfortunately the comments were really starting to fill up my in-box so I shut it down for that post : )

I actually have some to post this week!

1 – Finished planting the garden & flower beds. Now that the chance of frost (knock on wood) is gone, I was able to finish off the garden last weekend before the rain came. So if everything comes up, I’ll have yummy home grown potatoes, and a TON of tomatoes, green beans and peas. (We have a small garden).

2 – I managed to get all the summer clothes out and winter clothes back into storage for the entire family. It was a mess as I was doing it, but everything is now back in order! (At least for now)

3 – Celebrated my 8 year anniversary with my husband this week (on the 25th). He arranged a babysitter and we went out to a Monday Matinée. (Victoria Day was celebrated on the 24th this year) I even left the baby at home!
